Let’s bake a cake in the kitchen! We’ll talk about the ingredients we need and how to bake a cake. This gives us the opportunity to learn new numbers in English: 6 and 7. We’ll use our special numbers mix 6 and oven 7, an easy way to remember the numbers in English!
🔢 𝐍𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐡 ✋☝️ : This is the third video of this Math series. I’ll tell you short stories and rhymes to help you identify each number. We’ll practice them faster and faster. We will then do additions and subtractions! But don’t worry, it will always be fun!
⏮ Previous video – Let’s practice #1, 3 and 5.
⏩ Next video of the series – Practice 1, 3, 5, 6 and 7.
📋 This video introduces children to numbers 6 and 7. The goal is for them to recognize the numbers and use the English names right away without translating from their mother tongue or having to count their way up from 1.
🧠 We start by talking about the ingredients and steps needed to bake a cake. We also go around my kitchen looking at the oven and the dishwasher. That provides children with the context they need to spontaneously identify numbers 6 and 7 later. It doesn’t feel like we’re doing math. We also use rhymes, pictures specifically designed for this series and other visual elements. We appeal to auditory, visual and contextual memory to help children connect each number with their name in English. Here are other concepts your kid will practice in this video:
🔸 Pointing to something and naming it: 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑘𝑖𝑡𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑛, 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑛
🔸 Ingredients to bake a cake: 𝑓𝑙𝑜𝑢𝑟, 𝑒𝑔𝑔𝑠, 𝑠𝑢𝑔𝑎𝑟, 𝑏𝑎𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑝𝑜𝑤𝑑𝑒𝑟
🔸 Steps to bake a cake: 𝑝𝑢𝑡 𝑖𝑡 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑏𝑜𝑤𝑙, 𝑚𝑖𝑥, 𝑝𝑢𝑡 𝑖𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑑𝑖𝑠ℎ, 𝑝𝑢𝑡 𝑖𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑛
🔸 Present continuous: 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑎𝑚 𝐼 𝑑𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑔?, 𝐼’𝑚 𝑚𝑖𝑥𝑖𝑛𝑔, 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠 ℎ𝑎𝑝𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑖𝑛𝑔?
🔸 Wh-questions: 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑘𝑖𝑡𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑛?, 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑟𝑒𝑑𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑑𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑?, ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑑𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑏𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑎 𝑐𝑎𝑘𝑒?
🔸 Other ways of asking questions: 𝑑𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑝𝑜𝑤𝑑𝑒𝑟 𝑖𝑠?, ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑜𝑛𝑒?
🔸 Word building: 𝑑𝑖𝑠ℎ + 𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑛 = 𝑜𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑑𝑖𝑠ℎ, 𝑤𝑎𝑠ℎ + 𝑑𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑠 = 𝑑𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑤𝑎𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑟
🔸 Insight into the American culture: writing #7
🔸 Understanding natural English: I use many more words, expressions, sentences and questions even though they are not part of the learning goals of this video.
