English lesson video
Workbook answers video
What new English words can we learn when we look around our yard or garden? Trees, plants, flowers, grass, fence. You’ll learn how to describe your yard and say where everything is: there is grass all over the ground, there are plants in front of the fence, etc.
🌿 𝐈𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐲𝐚𝐫𝐝 🌺 : This is the first video of the Yard Series. In this series, you’ll get familiar with the vocabulary and expressions related to the area around your house. You’ll practice by playing Odd One Out and What’s missing. And I’ll even give you a tour of my own yard!
⏩ Next video of the series – Odd one out game about the yard: https://youtu.be/bXiKF8zdMds
📋 In this first video of the series, we are introducing key vocabulary about the yard (or garden). We are practicing new words through rounds of questions and answers. Throughout the video we are also using descriptive words and grammatical structures such as colors, adjectives, there is/there are and prepositions of place. It shows children how the words they are learning are used in natural sentences and is a preliminary step for them to form their own sentences.
🧠 There are several layers of knowledge and teaching in this introduction to the yard video. Our goal is for all children to find something new to learn and practice in each video regardless of how far along they are on their English journey.
From most basic to most complex, here is what this video will teach your kids:
🔸 Vocabulary about the yard: 𝑦𝑎𝑟𝑑, 𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑠, 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑠, 𝑓𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑠, 𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑠𝑠, 𝑓𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒
🔸 Pairing nouns and adjectives: 𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑓𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑠, ℎ𝑢𝑔𝑒 𝑚𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑠
🔸 Simple there is/there are sentences: 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑠𝑠, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑒, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑠
🔸 Combining information with AND: 𝑝𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑦𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑤 𝑓𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑠, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑓𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑠
🔸 There is/there are sentences with prepositions of place: 𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑐𝑙𝑜𝑢𝑑𝑠 𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑘𝑦, 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑡𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑛 𝑒𝑎𝑐ℎ 𝑠𝑖𝑑𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑠𝑒
🔸 Short answers: 𝑌𝑒𝑠, 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑐𝑎𝑛 / 𝑁𝑜, 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑐𝑎𝑛’𝑡 / 𝑌𝑒𝑠, 𝑖𝑡 𝑖𝑠 / 𝑁𝑜, 𝑖𝑡’𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡
🔸 Different ways of asking the same question: 𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡’𝑠 𝑎 𝑦𝑎𝑟𝑑? = 𝐷𝑜 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤 𝑤ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑎 𝑦𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝑖𝑠? 𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑤𝑒 𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑑 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑦𝑎𝑟𝑑? = 𝑊ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑦𝑎𝑟𝑑?
🔸 Understanding natural English: I use many more words, expressions, sentences and questions even though they are not part of the learning goals of this video.
